Louis CK and being an innovator

I don't know if you know who Louis C.K . is.I hope you do, because if you do your life is a better life. Who is he? He is a comedian. This is an easy label. And quite wrong, but helps to start understanding. He is a comedian, actor, director, producer, editor... and the list goes on. Ah, and father. And divorced. And ginger. Don't know if this explains something more. It's a bit more precise, though, and detailed. But even the above list leaves something out. One thing it leaves out is that he is a fucking genius, the second is that he is an innovator. I discovered him by chance 2 years ago. I was watching a show of Robin Williams (sadness...) on youtube and in the videos on the right he appeared. I discovered that he is incredibly funny, clever and has a unbelievable insight on human condition and psychology. Usually comedians got this, but he got it at an extreme high level. I looked for his shows and discovered that he was offering them, DRM free , on ...

Jurassic World: good entertainment, bad movie

I never watched the Jurassic movies. Maybe some scene here and there. But not one complete movie. Or at least I don't remember it. But after the best pizza in Amsterdam (Fuoco Vivo) we decided that it a good idea as was the second part of the night: Jurassic World!! First a minute to curse the 3D. Hate it. I watched the movie, didn't think it was so spectacular, watch the trailer the next day and discovered that on my laptop's screen I was seeing colors that I just imagined during the vision at the cinema! Bad, bad 3D! Than the movie. SPOILERS START! ---------------------------------\ 1. high heels in the jungle is not a good idea 2. a company with as chain of command 2 persons... maybe not a great company 3. road bike in the middle of the forest and you never slide or fall? 4. the most dangerous dinosaurs ever, you finally have got it in front of you and you don't shoot immediately? 5. when finally you shoot with whatever you have, including ma...

Interstellar: what goes and what goesn't... ehm... doesn't go! [part I]

So, I watched the movie, enjoyed it (you should already know, by now, having read this ) and I read about it on I 400 Calci (in Italian, but simply wonderful site on movies). I want to (and will) go to watch it a second time (this time I'll chose a not Imax theatre, a really nice one: The Movie, in AMS), as a lot of things I've lost (thank you damn Texan accent!) and some I've probably already forgot. But having read about the movie and talked with friends about it, I fell that I want to line down the things that didn't worked so well, weren't so clear or simply... I didn't appreciated much. And also what, on the contrary, was working. All of that... by my own opinion, obviously! So, from now on is SPOILER ALERT!! 1. We are at some point in the future, not too much... but where the hell all of the mobile phones have gone? 1.1 and what about Google Maps (or any other such service)? Do you really need paper maps to look for NASA? Really? It's '95...

Interstellar or... f**k it, Nolan... you got me! Science it's not credible enough, better study MAGIC!

I just got back from watching Interstellar. No other way to put it. I LOVED it! Let me be clear: there are bullshits around the whole movie and it's far from a perfect one. But I went out of the theatre and could just think: I just saw the new "2001 - A space Odissey". Of course I can be wrong... or better... I am sure I am wrong. But I really enjoyed this movie. Again, with all the stupid problems it presents (why, tell me, oh! Why, they cannot build better ways to protect themselves from... dust?!?!? Or why they are still using petrol for cars? And Google Maps!?? Where Google Maps has gone, by God!!). So, go out there in the wild and watch it! Is a wonderful way to spend 3 hours of your life! Unless... unless you think that building a fucking Ark that fly through space (and, most importantly, leave the gravitational pit of Earth from the SURFACE) is less probable and believable then rupturing Space-Time continuum! Yes... It's so strange for ...

Two words on: buy a new mobile phone (Jolla)

It has happened. After 3 years and some months, my wonderful, gorgeous, amazing Nokia N9 told me: "I am dying, I am slowly dying... forgive me!" I will, I will forgive you, my sorrowful friend... but I will never forget you! After years of buying a new phone every 12 months more or less ( HTC Magic , HTC Wildfire , Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 ), the Nokia N9 was the first smart phone I really enjoyed, appreciated and kept with me for 3 years. With all of its defects (few apps, thanks to Microsoft and its slowly killing of Nokia and quite immediate extermination of Meego , slow processor compared to newer devices, and something more) and its more numerous merits (it's an amazing phone). But now the time to abandon it and replacing it come quickly... one day it didn't turn up... and it was gone. I could still use its basics functions because I installed Sailfish OS on it almost 6 months ago, but it was clear that I should have reset the Meego installatio...

Pacific Rim

Yesterday evening I had nothing to do. Saturday night? Nothing to do on Saturday night?!? Well... let's clarify: I had nothing to do until 10:30, so I thought I would enjoy a movie. I turn off the lights (it was already 7 pm or later, here in the Netherlands it's dark outside and I live in a suburbs neighbourhood so not so many lights outside either), turn up the volume and sat on my "couch". The movie began and I was taken for 2 hours in a world in which giant monsters walks in the ocean to destroy us and giant robots fights them. They tried to fight them with conventional weapons but it was too difficult. Let's start from the beginning. I grew up not watching at Japanese animation series, I grew up not reading manga or other comics than Topolino (look for it, not Italian people, it's Mickey Mouse!) but always wanted to. I could enjoy only some, like Macross (Robotech), Captain Harlock, Mazinga, but never too continuously. Just some episodes now an...

Ten thousand views and some finger pointing

Image
HEEEEE!!! After a lot of years this blog reached the 10 000 views! It is a small number for a serious blog, but being me... I am happy! I noticed that if I "advertise" the posts in FB they get up to three/four times more views than if not... but I have decided to stop doing that for the more personal posts. If somebody wants to know something about my life, should come here directly! I, on the other hand, decided to keep advertise more neutral posts (AAHH!!! I cannot lose all of the views!!). Then... some finger pointing: Isn't this man the best? I watched two movies in these last days: Cowboys & Aliens and The Fugitive . Boy how good is he in both of them! About The Fugitive there is not a lot to say, but I was surprised from Cowboys & Aliens... the movie is pretty good! It could be better, of course. But it is pretty good. The could have used less aliens, for example. There are really too much of them to be a party scouting! And then... how...

Here are the links for: France Italia Spain

Defendor + I Will Not Be Broken

Woody Ha...

Give till it's gone

I've seen Unicorns out in the forest

and than an alligator killed two of my companions. One was killed in the trees and the second taken to the river and drowned there. It was a hard time for the others, but we kept on working and now our keep is almost a nice place to live in.  Well this is what happens in Dwarf Fortress , an incredible game.

Why Avatar is not a great movie

That's why. It's 2010 and already there are devices like this being developed and I should believe that in 2 thousands and some centuries more a paraplegic will have to wait governmental aid to be operated to walk again?!? That's a big suspension of belief. This movie is just a great show for the eyes and nothing more.

OpenTTD

It's a kind of magic... "Long time ago came a man on a track... ... there's six lane of traffic, three lanes moving slow..." This beautiful song, DireStraits, could be the perfect ost for a game I played when a was younger. It was called Transport Tycoon Deluxe (TTD). It was 1998 or so, and I was an enthusiast of the pc, but not so expert as could be expected. I spend hours of my life building tracks, roads, airports, connecting towns and industries. Then the years passed by, and I lost that beautiful game. Then Ubuntu comes in my life, and OpenTTD . And building comes back in my life. Now I'm enjoying as I was that old 23 years old boy.

District 9

The Horribly Slow Murderer With The Extremely Inefficent Weapon

The origin of Species, il secondo, in inglese. Into the wild, il terzo, in francese. Così passa la mia estate folle. Tre libri diversi (finalmente... libri!

Dominica Repubblic: from 1930 to 1961 lead by General Trujillo. If you search wikipedia, it...

3 jazzisti tedeschi e Windows 7

Torneranno a novembre, e magari li registreró meglio... stavolta ho fatto col cellulare, e devo scorpire se è possibile convertire i file .amr in formati umani.

Fuerteventura: vento a 20 nodi (2009)

E quindi a mangiare.
