I've been away - Sono stato lontano

Ho lavorato molto in questi ultimi 2 mesi.

Don't know if you know, but a while ago I bought a HP TouchPad and I was quite happy about it. I didn't pay it the 500 dollars it should have costed (but neither the 199 it was sold lately... but just slightly more so I'm satisfied) and it filling its function that's surfing the internet and not that much more. And then... yesterday, THIS ! What's "this"?!? Well, it's a new tablet that will hit the market in may. It's a tablet! It's new! It's open (but really open, as you'll have the choice to install other OSes as you like!)! It's cool!! And it runs Linux! Wow... ... the TouchPad already runs Linux (webOS has the linux kernel)... but this is not a dead OS like webOS seems to be. Here is the project. Mmmm... what to do?!?

Can-do actitude

HP TouchPad and WebOS... And some euros too...

A month ago I was surfing the web when I noticed a news: HP was about to sell its TouchPad for 99$ or 199$ again (original price was around 500$). 99 was for 16Gb and 199 for 32Gb version respectively. I was excited. Wanted to have a tablet since the iPad one days, but also I was not willing to pay 500 dollars... and I'm no more an Apple guy: I still think some of their products are incredible, but their policy is a thing I'm not willing to accept any more. So I was looking for something different: a Android tablet? A Nook? I had already heard about HP's tablet and it inspired me. A tablet with a linux flavour on it, a real dream! But 500 euros/dollars... Then I went to a friend's house and seen he has got an iPad... I decided I wanted a tablet... NOW! I tried to buy one during the one time sellout on ebay... and failed! But I was there, I'd already created an ebay account, already I had tried to buy, felt the power, the chill of auctioning! And there where a new...

4 days into 2012

The end of the world is already coming...  ... ok, I'm joking. Let's start with the balance of this 2012 until now: it sucks! A lot of bad news around us, Sabayon will not load the kernel from Grub2, nor Chakra will find a way to boot. Luckily I just found out that awn works also in Gnome-Shell, so I have some light ahead. Weellll... and tonight I've seen Gran Canaria and El Teide from Morro Jable's harbour and it was a great view (I should have already bought that damn photo camara!!)... but still the night is a bit sad. This year will see some changes (finally, I say!!) and it is a bit sad. The future is bright and the past has been. So what I am writing of? Nothing... and nobody. Cheerio

Bye bye sad 2011

I've got only thirty minutes and then I've got to prepare myself for tonight special dinner (wonderful dinner at the hotel's restaurant and then 2 more hours of work, serving grapes to the kind guests...) and for a change this year I want to write down what have made me sad in this 2011. So, let's start with the soft ones: - Linux has not won the desktop war; - Ubuntu is going to a place where I don't want to follow (that ugly Unity DE and Gnome Shell is not helping neither); - My HTC has a small battery and small memory; - my belly is getting bigger (I'm getting fat...); - another year has passed and still I haven't played a single match with Juventus; now let's go on with something bigger (like my bottom...): - SB (the little Italian Dwarf) has not yet died; - war in Lybia; - war in Afghanista; - war in Iraq; - less water for everybody; - Gaddafi murder (it's a dictator, but still it's a murder); - Euro crisis; - great cats d...

What's going on... Unity and Gnome-Shell

Here we are, another month is nearing it's end, another year has come and go (almost) and nothing has changed. Mean people still are mean, good people find it every day to be good and BS has not yet died (the little dictator of Italy, of course!). Meanwhile Kim Song Il has... and is the world better today? Not sure. But let's talk about important things. In the past weeks I've been using Fedora 16 and Gnome-Shell and Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity. I like Fedora, it's the other half of Linux world, the one without apt and deb and with rpm... and I missed Software Center. I really don't know if debs are better than rpms or the opposite. The thing I know is that Software Center it's easy, clear and nice to look at (and Synaptic too, easy and clear) while on Fedora there is nothing like it. To look for a package on Fedora you should really want to find it... Synaptic is god compared to YUM (I know, I'm telling this only because I started using Synaptic before......
